About the Role

\n

Performant Capital is seeking exceptional Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) candidates to partner with our portfolio companies and accelerate growth. This is a unique opportunity for entrepreneurial, high-performing operators who are excited to step into meaningful leadership roles within lower middle market software and technology-enabled businesses.

\n

\n

Depending on the needs of the portfolio company and the candidate's experience, Entrepreneurs in Residence may enter one of two tracks:

\n

\n

\n
• General Manager / President Track: Lead the day-to-day operations of a portfolio company or business unit, assume full P&L ownership, and develop into a CEO role.
\n

\n

\n

\n
• Chief of Staff / Strategic Leadership Track: Partner directly with a portfolio company CEO to drive strategic initiatives, operational improvements, and value creation while preparing for broader executive leadership responsibilities.
\n

\n

\n

This role provides unmatched exposure to private equity investing, company operations, and executive leadership while working directly with Performant Capital's investment team and portfolio company executives.

\n

\n

This is a full-time remote position. Regular travel to Performant Capital's Chicago headquarters and portfolio company locations is an essential component of the role, enabling close collaboration with executive leadership, cross-functional teams, and portfolio company management to drive operational excellence and value creation.

\n

\n

Responsibilities

\n

Responsibilities will vary depending on placement but may include:

\n

\n
• Lead day-to-day operations of a portfolio company or business unit with responsibility for growth, execution, and financial performance.
\n
• Own or support management of a standalone business with $2M-$10M+ in revenue and significant growth opportunity.
\n
• Develop and execute strategic initiatives alongside portfolio company leadership.
\n
• Analyze business performance, identify operational improvements, and implement scalable processes.
\n
• Drive cross-functional initiatives across sales, marketing, product, finance, customer success, and operations.
\n
• Partner directly with Performant Capital's investment professionals and portfolio company CEOs on strategic planning and execution.
\n
• Build leadership capabilities with the opportunity to progress into executive leadership or CEO positions within the portfolio.

\n

Qualifications

\n

\n
• MBA preferred.
\n
• 2-10+ years of professional experience in consulting, private equity, investment banking, corporate strategy, operating roles, or entrepreneurial environments.
\n
• Demonstrated leadership ability with a desire to build and operate businesses.
\n
• Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills.
\n
• Exceptional work ethic and willingness to take ownership in fast-paced environments.
\n
• Comfortable operating in smaller businesses where resourcefulness, adaptability, and execution are essential.
\n
• Passion for building companies and creating long-term value.
\n

Preferred Experience

\n

Successful candidates may come from backgrounds such as:

\n

\n
• General Manager or business unit leader with P&L responsibility.
\n
• Private equity or investment banking professional seeking to transition into an operating role.
\n
• Chief of Staff, Strategy, or Operations leader supporting executive teams.
\n
• Management consulting with operational implementation experience.
\n
• Founder or operator within a software or technology-enabled business.
\n
